In 2005, a local farming family - the Geraldsons - wanted to sell their land. However, they wanted to make sure that it stayed in agriculture. So they contacted Manatee County and the county agreed to purchase it and lease it to Florida West Coast RC&D.
The Florida West Coast RC&D has now operated Geraldson Community Farm for 5 seasons. At the request of the Geraldson family, the farm bears that name to honor the family's contribution to community and the agricultural history of Manatee County.
